What is the driver assistance feature called Active Lane Assist?

I recently purchased an Audi A8 and noticed this feature. Can you explain to me what it does and how it works?

It is activated when the vehicle is traveling above 40 mph and can provide gentle steering interventions to keep the car from drifting out of the lane.

In addition to keeping the car centered within the lane, Active Lane Assist also has the ability to provide a warning if the driver begins to unintentionally drift out of the lane.
