How can I disable the automatic shift lock on my Audi 80?

I have a 1990 Audi 80 sedan and I'm having trouble getting it out of park. The shift lock seems to be stuck on and I have to use the shift lock override every time I want to shift gears. Is there a way to disable this feature or fix the issue?
