How do I know if my Audi's engine is overheating?

I recently noticed that my Audi's temperature gauge was going up very high. How can I tell if my engine is overheating and what should I do about it?

The first thing you should do is turn off your air conditioning and lower your windows to help cool the engine. If the temperature gauge continues to go up, pull over and turn off the engine immediately. This will prevent any further damage.

Another sign of an overheating engine is steam coming out from under the hood. In this case, it's best to pull over and let the engine cool down before checking the coolant level. If it's low, add some water or coolant to bring it back to the proper level.
