How do I properly check the engine oil in my Audi A4?

I just got my first Audi A4 and I want to make sure I am properly checking the engine oil. What steps do I need to take and how do I interpret the results?

The first step is to make sure your engine is completely cooled down. Next, locate the oil dipstick and fully remove it. Wipe it clean with a cloth and reinsert it.
