How do I properly check the engine oil in my Audi A4?

I just got my first Audi A4 and I want to make sure I am properly checking the engine oil. What steps do I need to take and how do I interpret the results?

The first step is to make sure your engine is completely cooled down. Next, locate the oil dipstick and fully remove it. Wipe it clean with a cloth and reinsert it. Then remove it again and check the oil level, making sure it falls within the designated range on the dipstick. If it is below the minimum level, add more oil. If it is above the maximum level, you may need to drain some oil out. If the oil is dark and dirty, it is time for an oil change.

When checking the engine oil, also pay attention to the oil color. If it is a milky or foamy texture, this could indicate a bigger issue with coolant mixing with the oil. Make sure to have this checked out by a mechanic.

It is recommended to check your oil every 1,000 miles in an Audi A4. This will help you keep track of your oil usage and catch any potential issues early on.
