I recently changed the spark plugs on my Audi 80 and now I am having trouble starting the car. I read online that I may need to adjust the distributor, but I am not sure how to do it. Can someone guide me through the process? Thanks!
ReplyIn order to adjust the distributor on your Audi 80, you will need a timing light and a distributor wrench. Connect the timing light to the number one spark plug, start the engine, and check the timing marks on the crankshaft pulley. If they are not aligned, loosen the distributor bolt and rotate the distributor until the marks are in alignment. Retighten the bolt and check the timing again to ensure it is correct.
I had a similar issue with my Audi 80 and I found that adjusting the idle speed also helped. Locate the idle speed adjustment screw on the throttle body and turn it counterclockwise to increase the idle speed. This can help with starting the car and may even improve overall performance.
Before adjusting the distributor, make sure that all of the spark plug wires are properly connected and that the spark plugs are gapped correctly. Sometimes simple things like this can cause starting issues. If everything looks good, then proceed with adjusting the distributor.
