How to diagnose a broken speedometer in an Audi 80?

My Audi 80's speedometer suddenly stopped working. I don't know if it's an electrical issue or a mechanical problem. Is there any way to diagnose the issue and possibly fix it myself?

First, check the speed sensor on the transmission. It could be faulty or disconnected.

You can also try checking the speedometer cable, which connects the sensor to the gauge. It may have come loose or broken.
