How to diagnose a failing alternator in an Audi 80?

I've been experiencing issues with my car's battery and it keeps dying. I suspect it could be a failing alternator but I'm not sure. How can I diagnose this issue in my Audi 80?

Before jumping to conclusions and replacing the alternator, you should first check the battery's voltage using a multimeter while the car is running. If the reading is below 13.5 volts, it's likely a bad alternator.
