How to improve the steering response of an Audi 80?

I recently purchased an older Audi 80 and have noticed that the steering response is not as precise as I would like. Are there any adjustments or upgrades I can make to improve the steering?

First, make sure your tires are properly inflated and aligned. This can greatly affect the handling of your car. Additionally, consider upgrading to performance tires for better grip on the road. You can also check the suspension components to ensure they are in good condition and not contributing to any looseness in the steering. Lastly, some owners have found that switching to a smaller steering wheel can provide more direct feedback and improve the responsiveness.

Having owned an Audi 80 for many years, my personal recommendation would be to upgrade your sway bars. This will greatly reduce body roll and improve the overall handling of your car. You may also want to look into installing a strut tower brace for additional stability. Keep in mind that making any modifications to your steering and suspension can affect the ride quality and may require further adjustments.

If you're not looking to make any major modifications, simply putting in some effort to regularly maintain the steering components can make a big difference. This includes regularly replacing the power steering fluid, checking for any leaks, and greasing the joints. A well-maintained steering system will result in a more responsive and precise steering feel.
