What does the 'S' mode on the Audi A3 transmission do?

I recently purchased an Audi A3 and noticed a 'S' mode on the transmission. What does this mode do and when should I use it?

The 'S' mode stands for 'Sport' mode and it allows the transmission to hold onto gears longer for a more spirited driving experience. It is best used when you want a more aggressive and responsive ride, such as when driving on twisty roads or accelerating onto a highway.

I personally use the 'S' mode in stop-and-go traffic, as it helps with smoother accelerations and decelerations. It also gives me more control over the car's power delivery.
