What engine oil should I use for my 1992 Audi 80 2.0 E Sedan?

I have recently acquired a 1992 Audi 80 2.0 E Sedan and I am not sure what type of engine oil to use for optimal performance. The owner's manual says to use a 5W-30 viscosity grade, but I have heard conflicting opinions on this. Can anyone provide some insight?

The manufacturer's recommended viscosity grade of 5W-30 is a safe and reliable choice for your Audi 80's engine. This viscosity grade will provide good thermal stability and offer protection against engine wear. It is also recommended to use a synthetic or synthetic blend oil for improved performance and longevity.

I have been using a 10W-40 viscosity grade oil in my Audi 80 for years with no issues. This oil provides better protection at higher temperatures and is more cost-effective. However, it may not perform as well in colder climates. Ultimately, it comes down to personal preference and the climate you drive in.

I highly recommend using a fully synthetic 5W-30 oil for your Audi 80. This type of oil offers the best protection against engine wear, provides improved fuel economy, and lasts longer between oil changes. Make sure to always check the oil level and top up when necessary to maintain optimal performance.
