What is the function of the gear selector in an Audi A1?

I can't figure out why my gear selector isn't working properly in my Audi A1. It can only be shifted from park to neutral, but not to any other gear. Any ideas on what might be the issue and how to fix it?

The gear selector controls the transmission system in your Audi A1, allowing you to shift from one gear to another. If it is not functioning properly, it could be due to a faulty gear selector switch or a problem with the transmission itself. It's best to have it checked by a professional mechanic to accurately diagnose and fix the issue.

Make sure the gear selector is properly aligned and in the correct position before trying to shift gears. Sometimes it can get stuck or jammed if it is not aligned properly, which can be easily fixed by realigning it.
