What is the purpose of the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) in the Audi A4?

I am new to driving and recently purchased an Audi A4. I have noticed a feature called Electronic Stability Control (ESC) but I am not sure what it does. Can you please explain its purpose and how it helps with my driving experience?

The Electronic Stability Control (ESC) is a safety feature that detects and reduces the loss of traction when your vehicle is either oversteering or understeering. It uses sensors and microcomputers to apply individual brakes to help maintain control of the vehicle.

The ESC system works hand in hand with the Anti-Lock Brakes (ABS) to provide maximum control and stability while driving. By measuring the car's steering angle, yaw rate, and lateral acceleration, it can adjust the engine torque and braking for better handling and traction.
