Why does the Audi A3 automatically brake when going downhill?

I've noticed that my Audi A3 will automatically apply the brakes when I'm driving downhill. Why is this happening? Is it a feature or is something wrong with my car?

This feature is called hill-hold assist and it is designed to keep the car from rolling backwards when starting on a hill. It uses sensors to detect the incline and applies the brakes for a few seconds to give you time to accelerate.

It's a safety feature to prevent the car from gaining too much speed when going downhill. It's especially helpful in slippery conditions.

If you don't like the automatic braking, you can turn it off in the car's settings. But I would highly recommend keeping it on for safety reasons.
