Why is there a grinding noise when I turn my Audi A1?

Lately, my Audi A1 has been making a loud grinding noise whenever I turn the steering wheel. It happens at low speeds and seems to come from the front left side of the car. I've checked the tires and brakes and can't find any obvious issues. What could be causing this and how do I fix it?

It sounds like your power steering system may be malfunctioning. If you have noticed any difficulty turning the wheel or a slow response when turning, this could be the issue. It's important to have it looked at and repaired as soon as possible to avoid any safety hazards on the road.

I had a similar issue with my Audi A1 and it turned out to be a faulty wheel bearing on the front left side. It was a bit of a hassle to replace, but the noise went away immediately. However, I would recommend consulting a mechanic to properly diagnose the problem before attempting any repairs yourself.

If your Audi A1 is equipped with an adjustable steering column, the grinding noise may be caused by the lower steering shaft rubbing against the upper steering shaft. This can happen over time due to normal wear and tear. Lubricating the shafts may temporarily fix the issue, but it's best to have it inspected by a professional.
