Why does my Audi R8 make a strange noise when I turn on the AC?

I recently purchased a used Audi R8 and I've noticed that whenever I turn on the air conditioning, there is a strange noise coming from the engine. It doesn't happen when the AC is turned off. What could be causing this issue and how can I fix it?
