Why does my Audi A4's parking brake not engage?

I recently purchased a used Audi A4 and noticed that the parking brake does not engage when I pull the lever. It seems to click into place but the car still rolls. Is this a common issue and is there a solution?

It is possible that the parking brake cable has stretched or become loose over time. I recommend taking your car to a certified mechanic to have it inspected and adjusted if necessary. To prevent this issue in the future, try using the parking brake regularly.

Another potential cause could be a faulty parking brake lever or mechanism. Consider having it replaced if the cable adjustment does not solve the issue. Also, be aware of any unusual sounds or vibrations when using the parking brake as this could indicate a bigger problem.

In some cases, dirt or debris can build up around the parking brake components and prevent it from engaging properly. Try cleaning the area around the lever and mechanism and see if that helps. If not, consult a mechanic.
