Why does the Audi A4 have a Multitronic transmission?

Can anyone explain the reason behind Audi's choice to use a Multitronic transmission instead of a dual-clutch transmission in their A4 models? Is it a cost-saving measure or does it have performance benefits?

The main reason for Audi's use of the Multitronic transmission was to improve fuel efficiency and reduce emissions. This type of continuously variable transmission (CVT) is able to maintain a constant engine speed, allowing for smoother acceleration and better fuel economy.

While the Multitronic transmission may not offer the same level of performance as a dual-clutch transmission, it does provide a more comfortable driving experience. The CVT is able to shift gears seamlessly, without any jerking or hesitation, making for a smoother ride overall.

Though the Multitronic transmission may not be as quick as a dual-clutch for sporty driving, it does offer a more efficient and smoother driving experience for everyday use. If you prioritize comfort and efficiency over performance, then the Multitronic is a great choice.
