How does the Audi A8's MMI (Multi Media Interface) work and how can I customize it?

I am considering purchasing an Audi A8 and I am very interested in the MMI system. Can anyone explain how it operates and if there are any ways to personalize it?

The MMI system in the Audi A8 is controlled through a large central display and a rotary knob/button combination on the center console. You can customize the main menu screen to have your frequently used functions readily available by holding down and dragging the desired function to the main menu.

I find that the quick access buttons on the MMI control panel are very useful for customizing my frequently used functions. You can set them up by going to the main menu, selecting 'Setup' and then choosing 'Favorites'. From there, you can select which functions you want to be quickly accessible.

One of the coolest features of the MMI system is its handwriting recognition. You can input destinations, contacts, and music selections by writing with your finger on the touchpad located on the MMI control panel. It takes a bit of practice but once you get the hang of it, it's very convenient.
