What does the P in Audi 80's 1.8 P-engine stand for?

I've just bought a 1995 Audi 80 with the 1.8-liter P-engine, but I can't find any information about what the P stands for. Can anyone enlighten me?

The P actually stands for "Power", as this engine was designed for increased performance and horsepower compared to the standard 1.8 engine.

I used to own an Audi 80 with the P-engine and asked a mechanic about it. He said it stands for "Petrol", indicating that this engine is designed for gasoline fuel.

I did some research and found that the P stands for "Pre-July", indicating that this engine design was released before July 1995. After that, they switched to a different engine code system.
